The pattern you chose is interesting as it appeals to my aesthetic. It's clean. In a way it reminds me of 60s modern wallpaper. The design is working in a simplistic way. It's not incredibly dynamic, but does it need to be? If your style is clean then it works very well. Because it's a clean, simple pattern, you can get away with a vertical, horizontal, or even circular composition so that is totally up to you at this point! I can see a circular composition working with the design. Maybe you can experiment with that. It's nice to see red and green work together in an appealing way, however I do not think the colors are necessarily vibrating. I would try to change the chroma of the background to match the darkness of the pattern, or vice versa. The seperate chromas you chose work together in a sense that your pattern is easily visible, but the goal is to try and make the edges vibrate, so your eyes get a little tired or strained from looking at the chosen composition. Overall, it seems like you have a good understanding of illustrator and color. Try to push yourself with the chromas and don't be afraid to experiment. Sometimes it's annoying to test and remake patterns over and over, but the finished product is always worth it!
I really enjoy the way that you magnified your original pattern to become a vibrating pattern. It really brings the entire piece together in a very cohesive way. The subtle difference in chroma really does make your patterns successfully pop out. However, maybe breaking the rectangle shape encompassing your piece may make it more effective since the outer colors are more dull. Maybe cut the edges and create a diamond border?
