Project 6: Stop Motion

I wanted to play around with how pigments are made for this last project. The red pigment is made from a raspberry, yellow from turmeric powder, blue from indigo leaf, white from chalk, and black from charcoal. It's so odd that paint pigments come from natural substances but they get turned into these crazy artificial things, like nail polish.

Here's the YouTube link for it:

Project 5: Flag

I chose this peachy color because it is one of my favorite shades of pink, which is one of my favorite colors. I chose the dark grey because I used to hate black and white when I was little. I have slowly come to like both of those colors, and since both of them mixed together makes grey, I thought I would use that on my flag. I used a light-ish blue because it's similar to the color of my eyes and I've always worn blue dresses to any formal event I've ever gone to. I used a minty color because I'm Irish and for my love of the Muppets. Finally, I picked the red because I always joke that when you wear red, you exude an "I'm the boss" kind of presence.

In the middle of the flag is an abstracted hams hand. I chose to use this symbol because it is a universal sign of good luck. The pointed rectangles on the right side of the flag are abstracted pencils, because I love to draw.

Project 3: Simultaneous Contrast

Project 3: Simultaneous Contrast

The first design shows one color that looks like two. The blue that is surrounded by the light orange appears darker and brighter because it is put against a lighter background of its complimentary color. The blue that is on the darker blue background appears lighter and less saturated than the blue surrounded in the orange because it is on a darker, more saturated background.

The second design features two colors looking like one. Before putting them on their backgrounds, the blue on the left was bluer than the blue on the right. The blue on the right was greener. After using the backgrounds, the blue on the right looks less green because it is on a very saturated green background. It is also put on a slightly lighter background to make the blue appear darker.

Project 1: Color Wheel and Monochromatic Painting

I chose the to do my painting in red because reds and pinks are my favorite colors. I also think that red really stands out against other colors and it looks good when added to white to make a tint or when added to black to make a shade.

Advancing and Receding Color

"... cool colors seem to be more relaxing and to recede slightly in space, and warm colors more exciting and to advance in space." - The New Munsell Student Color Set

Color Usage

This is Lost in Wonderland by Gabriel Picolo. The piece is made almost entirely out of varying shades of purples and blues. However, there are a few other colors thrown in there as well. These other touches of color, especially the yellow, really make the piece pop. The use of color is effective because the color of the mushrooms draw you into the focal point. The yellow in Alice's hair also draw you to her.
